During the Great Depression the sign was neglected, so the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce took over and repaired the sign (as well as removed 'LAND' from the sign, leaving the 'HOLLYWOOD' we see today). In 1973 the sign was named an official historic monument, and standing over four stories high, you can be sure that it is a spectacular sight to see!
