If you've just sold a particularly expensive new home in Ontario you might reward yourself with a vacation to a place you've always wanted to visit. For a lot of people, Hollywood, California is at the top of the list. No visit to Hollywood would be complete without a visit to the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. We'll tell you all about the walk of fame and whose names you can expect to find on it in this article.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a large segment of sidewalk (18 city blocks worth) on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Los Angeles, California. It has become internationally famous because it contains thousands of embedded stars bearing the names of big achievers. Only people well known in the entertainment industry can earn stars, so if you're a butterfly valve manufacturer or a dental hygienist, you're out of luck unless you want to try your hand at acting, directing, producing, music, or theater.
The Walk of Fame was dreamed up in the 1950s by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as a way to promote and commemorate the city's culture. Today the Walk is jointly maintained by them and the Hollywood Historic Trust. A London architect can appreciate the walk's simplicity. Embedded in the black stone sidewalk are pink terrazzo stars lined with brass. Each one has a symbol representing the star's genre (TV, Audio, Theater, etc) and a name in block letters.
The Walk of Fame is a major tourist attraction. Over 10 million people visit it every year. Because of this, the walk also attracts many hawkers, street performers, souvenir vendors, and impersonators. While you're there, you might have the chance to enter in a car raffle, throw some change into the guitar case of a street musician, and have your photo taken with a Superman impersonator. Because the walk is so large, tourist carts will also be selling maps that will lead you to the stars you're looking for.
If you were to have Printing Toronto do a list of all the stars whose names are on the walk, it would be very long. Some of the stars that are most popular with visitors include Lucille Ball, John Wayne, Lassie, The Three Stooges, KISS, Dr. Seuss, Jack Nicholson, The Simpsons, William Shatner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Winnie the Pooh, Bela Lugosi, Chuck Norris, Jay Leno, Liberace, Mickey Mouse, BB King, and the astronauts of Apollo 11.
